Β 10 Things I'm Loving This Fall

I don’t know if it’s just a part of getting older or what, but recently, I have found myself really reflecting on what it is in life that I thoroughly enjoy. The little things that make me happy every. single. day. And yes, of course, my husband, my kids, and my family are at the top of that list… But, I’m also realizing that as materialistic as it may sound, there are certain THINGS in life that bring me joy.

In the past, I’ve been hesitant to spend money on nice things for myself because it seemed so… frivolous. The things I would end up buying (I’m talking clothes, shoes, make-up, toiletries, home decor, etc…) would be cheap, not my style, and wouldn’t work or fit the way I wanted them to. So, instead of bringing me joy (yes, I’m channeling my inner Marie Kondo), my things would bring me frustration and annoyance every time I used them. Now that I am taking the time to figure out what exactly it is that I’m looking for and what things are worth spending a little bit of money on, when I do purchase something, it’s something that I love and that makes me happy every time I wear, use, or look at it. So, in the spirit of joy and self-care and joy and because fall is my favorite season… I thought I’d share 10 things that are making me happy this fall πŸ™‚ .

1. Bath and Body Works ‘Hello Fall’ candle.
I’m a little obsessed with everything fall. And in my opinion, this is the PERFECT fall scent. Plus, it’s in a super cute container that I love looking at and fits right into my decor. Lighting a candle in the evening has become something I look forward to after putting the kiddos to bed. For me, it symbolizes the transition from busy, loud, and chaotic, to calm, cozy, and relaxing.

2. Soma glass water bottle.
My son dropped my Life Factory glass water bottle a couple weeks ago and it shattered all over the patio πŸ™ . I’ve been on the hunt for a new water bottle ever since. Since my glass one shattered, I decided to try out a stainless steel one that I picked up at Target to prevent future breakage. I HATED it. First of all, the finish on the outside was already coming off after only one week of use (and I even hand-washed it as instructed!) and secondly, I’ve realized I REALLY hate the taste of stainless steel. So, it was back to the internet to search for a new glass bottle. There was a couple that I was thinking about and almost purchased another Life Factory one because I loved my last one and it lasted me at least 2 good years. But, then I came across this Soma one and loved everything about it. It’s pretty to look at (which is important to me since it’s near me all day long), it will fit in a cupholder no problem, and it’s got a leak free lid that I can throw into my bag. It doesn’t have a straw (I hate cleaning straws) and I like that the protective silicone covers most of the bottle to keep it sweat free. I was worried that the 17 oz size was going to be a little too small for me, but now that I’ve been using it for a few weeks, I’m finding it’s actually the perfect size to use on a daily basis. I love it so much that I’m probably ordering another one so I can have a back-up when it’s in the wash – maybe in the blush color…

3. Throw Pillows
We recently gave our living room a little refresh and you might say I’ve become re-acquainted with my love of throw pillows. My husband might not appreciate it when there’s another new pillow on the couch as much as I do, but the coziness and seasonal flair they bring to my living room makes me too happy – so, I get my way on this one πŸ™‚ . I’m loving ones with any kind of texture – like this one, this one, or this one that I spotted on a recent Target run. Home Goods and Marshall’s are also great spots to find some gorgeous throw pillows. Your husband can thank me later πŸ˜‚.

4. Taupe Booties
Yes, I am a little late to the bootie game. I have short, thick legs and really didn’t think the ankle boot did much to flatter my legline, so I’ve been religiously wearing my tall cognac boots for years now – but, I really was loving the way they look on other women. So, after much searching on Pinterest for “How to wear ankle boots with short legs”, I realized wasn’t wearing them correctly. Anyways, long story short… I FINALLY got myself a pair of ankle boots this fall and I am truly loving them. I found this pair from Lucky Brand at TJ Maxx and they are so super comfy. I was a little worried about the little bit of a heel (I’m a comfort footwear kind of girl), but now that I got used to them, I realized the heel doesn’t bother me at all… I have even worn them on the walk to pick up my son from school without any sore feet. I also love the neutral color – I can wear them with just about anything and I love how they instantly dress up any outfit. Consider me converted. If you are resistant to the bootie because of your short legs like I was, check out this post – you may just not be wearing them correctly!

5. My Erin Condren Life Planner
I know it’s still 2017, but since I’m already booking newborn photography sessions into 2018, it was time for me to bite the bullet and order my planner for the new year (always have been and probably always will be a paper planner kind of girl). This will be my second year using the Erin Condren and I’ve found it really works well for me. It’s the perfect size, has a coil binding (a must for me so I can fold it over), and I was able to customize the cover to fit my style. In the past, I have found that a daily planner is too much for me, but a monthly one is not enough. The Life Planner’s weekly vertical 3-sectioned layout works perfectly for me. It’s got enough space to write in my to-do list for that day with enough extra note space for things that might not be due right now; but, that I need to start thinking about working on. I sprung for the Luxe cover this year in grey with a gold coil and also embossed the year 2018 in gold foil. I got it in the mail a couple weeks ago and am super happy with how it turned out. If you research planners to death like I do, let me know and I might do a little review about mine and how I use it as the new year gets closer.

6. Hubby/Wifey coffee mugs
This one may not work for everyone, but I love them too much not to share πŸ™‚ . Those of you who know me – know that my husband does not call me Ashley and that I do not call him Andy. He is Hubby and I am Wifey. Even his co-workers call me Wifey and in fact, a good friend of mine realized that even though we talked pretty much every day, she didn’t know my husband’s real name for a whole yearΒ πŸ˜‚!Β So, when I got a text from the same friend one afternoon with a picture of these mugs, I knew Hubby and I had to have them. Morning coffee (and afternoon coffee on the days he’s off work) has become a little ritual of ours that we look forward to every day and while they may not be all that fancy… sipping from these mugs make that ritual a little more enjoyable for the both of us.

7. Third Love Bra
I listen to a lot of podcasts (see my bonus item below) and many of them have had Third Love as one of their advertisements. So many of them in fact, that I finally caved and ordered myself a Third Love bra. I mean, with a 30 day money back guarantee, you can’t go wrong, right? I ordered the full coverage seamless striped one and agree with many of the reviews, that sometimes I forget that I even have it on. I love the memory foam cups and that the straps never fall down or dig in. The quiz on their site is detailed and is a great way to ensure that you are ordering the correct size. Plus, they’re pretty! I think I’m going to try out the new wine colored one next.

8. Hearth and Hand with Magnolia
Ok, Ok… I admit, I was one of the many, many, women counting down the days until this collection was released at Target. And yes, my striped pot holders, porcelain pitcher, and plaid pillow are going to be the same ones that a million other homes in America have, but I DON’T CARE. I love everything Joanna Gaines does and I’m not ashamed to say it πŸ˜‚. Even if you don’t buy anything… just got to Target (without the kids), get a cup of coffee, and browse the Hearth and Hand display. Everything is just so pretty. I’m eyeing the tote bag and the Christmas stockings next.

9. Lipstick
I’ve always been a chapstick kind of girl, but recently, I have started experimenting with wearing lipstick. I honestly don’t know why I waited so long. It takes 2 min to put on and instantly makes me feel more put together – even if I’m still in my workout gear with my hair pulled back. It’s such a small thing and something that’s so easy to do everyday and it makes me feel just a little bit better about myself. I have been trying out different drugstore lipsticks and found a couple I like, but, now I’m ready to take the plunge and order myself some ‘fancier’ lipstick. This one from Urban Decay has great reviews and will probably be the one I end up pulling the trigger on. Let me know in the comments if there’s a lipstick you love!

10. Statement Necklaces
Just like I’m late to the bootie trend, I’m also late to the statement jewelry trend. I really haven’t worn jewelry besides my engagement/wedding ring up until this last year. Turns out, a great necklace can really pull together an outfit – who knew?! I just got this one (from Target, of course) and I really love how it is enough to make a statement, but not too much (if that makes sense). I also love that it can go from casual to dressy outfits without a problem.

BONUS ITEM:Β The Girl Next Door Podcast
I am officially a podcast junkie. If you have not jumped on the podcast bandwagon yet, can I just say… Don’t. wait. any. longer. I listen to them all the time. While I’m editing photos, while I’m folding laundry, while I’m making dinner, while I’m cleaning up in the evening and packing lunches… for me, a great podcast can make any mundane task a lot more fun – try them out – you might love it as much as I do! The Girl Next Door Podcast is my latest favorite. It’s two friends and former next door neighbors chatting about everything from motherhood, to cleaning routines, to staying organized, to style and beauty routines and a whole lot more. My favorite episodes of them all is their annual Fall Extravaganza episodes. Any girls who are obsessed with all things fall as much as I am are A-ok in my book. Listening to their podcast is like having two friends with me all day long. Check it out over on Apple Podcasts – you won’t be sorry!

Ok, friends – that’s it! Ten things that I’m loving and are making my life a little bit happier this fall. Hope you discovered something new to try out and I hope you will love them as much as I do!
