Think back to your childhood for a second…
Who was your first friend? Your first playmate? Your first enemy? Your first ally? If you had a sibling, chances are… they were all these things to you (and more!).
Well, big sister Berdie, met her first best friend the day baby Julian was born :).
I met up with the K family one morning in May (I know, I know, I’m waaaaaaay behind on blogging) at their Bay Village home for their first photos as a family of four.
Newborn and sibling photos are something I really love to capture. Having 3 siblings of my own, I know how special that bond can be and what could be better than photographing how it all started?! And while that bond is something I love to capture, I find that sometimes parents can be nervous about incorporating an older sibling into their newborn photography session. Especially, when the older sibling is under the age of 3. BUT, I’m here to calm your nerves and tell you that with a lifestyle session, there is NOTHING to worry about. I promise, we WILL get some great photos of them together.
My approach to a session with with a young sibling is just to capture their interest in their new baby. Their curiosity. I let them lead the way. I find that when I don’t push them to get in the photo, they have more interest in jumping in. With Berdie, the key to her heart (and to bringing out her smile) was play, fruit snack, and stickers :). And she loved pointing out where Julian’s nose and mouth were – which ended up making for some pretty great photos.
So, parents, if you are thinking about a newborn photography session, but are worried about how your baby’s older sibling will act….. the moral of the story is to NOT worry about it. Let me work my magic and we will get amazing photos!!!
Thank you, K family, for choosing me as your newborn photographer and inviting me into your home to capture your first weeks as a family of four!
