FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Have a question? You might just find the answer below… If you don’t find what your looking for – please be in touch – I’d love to answer your question!
Do you have a studio?
No, I do not have a studio. All my photography sessions are done on location. Maternity sessions are done in your home or outdoors. Fresh 48 sessions are held in the place of your baby’s birth – hospital, birth center, or home. Newborn sessions are held in the comfort of your own home and shot in a lifestyle photography style.
What is lifestyle photography?
Lifestyle photography is natural. It’s authentic. It’s images of your family in your home. It’s your joy. It’s the quiet moments and the loud ones. Lifestyle is your memories – beautifully captured with my artistic vision. Find out more about my photography style HERE.
Will I get the digital files from my session?
This is by far the most frequent question I get asked and the answer is YES! Every collection includes ALL of the fully edited, digital photos from your session as a digital download. This means that when I send you the link to your gallery, you can download the photos directly to your computer.
What is your pricing?
You can see all pricing information HERE.
Do you offer images in color and black and white?
Yep! Each gallery will have a mix of both color and black and white. Usually, there are more color images (because that’s what makes my heart sing), but if you prefer more black and white, just let me know and I can include more of them in your gallery for you.
I’m nervous about an in home photography session. What if the nursery isn’t ready yet? What if I’m too tired to clean after I have the baby? Will my photos still look good?
ABSOLUTELY! I can not stress this enough. You do not need “the perfect home” to have a successful in home photography session. I believe in incorporating real life into your photos. Still not convinced? Check out this session for visual proof :).
What types of payments do you accept and when is payment due?
I accept cash, check, or credit card. The session deposit of $250 is due at the time of booking to hold your date and the remaining payment is due 7 days before your session. If you are booking a collection with multiple sessions, the remaining payment will be broken down for you and due before each session.
What camera do you have?
I shoot with a Nikon d750 full frame DSLR camera. She’s my third baby and I treat her as such 😉 . I’m not a gear hoarder – I don’t believe that the gear makes the photographer… I own only 3 lenses – an AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G ED , a Sigma 20mm 1.4 DG ART (my newest addition), and a Lensbaby Velvet 56. I edit 99% in Adobe Lightroom and 1% in Adobe Photoshop on a 27″ iMac desktop computer. The large screen comes in handy for editing purposes 🙂 .
MATERNITY PHOTOGRAPHY FAQ
Why should I consider a maternity session?
Pregnancy is a beautiful thing. The bond between a mama and her unborn child is real. Whether this is your first pregnancy or your last, this is the only time you will be pregnant with THIS child. This is part of their story.
When should I schedule my maternity session?
Maternity sessions are best done between 30 and 36 weeks. This ensures that you have a big enough belly to “show”, but that you’re not uncomfortably big in your photos. I recommend reaching out early in your second trimester to reserve your due date. If pregnancy brain has gotten to you and you’re already closing in on your due date – please still be in touch. I can sometimes squeeze in a shoot last minute.
Will family members be included in the session as well? Or is that extra?
Of course family is included! I believe that each maternity session should tell a story of your growing family in ADDITION to having photos of just you and your belly. All immediate family is included in the session including siblings and pets at no extra cost!
Ok, I’m ready to book my session! Now, what do I wear?
I suggest a neutral color palette for all my sessions as to not take away the focus from the love and interactions between you and your loved ones. Avoiding loud patterns, bright or fluorescent colors, and logos will keep the focus on your family. Moms-to-be should wear something that they feel comfortable in. Long dresses or fitted tops usually work great! You can also check out my What to wear: Maternity Pinterest board for some inspiration!
Will you use props in my session?
Nope, I don’t use props. I believe in capturing you and your family as naturally as possible. If there is something sentimental that you would like included in your session, please let me know ahead of time and we can talk about how to incorporate it into your session.
FRESH 48 & NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY FAQ
When will my newborn photography session take place?
With my natural approach to newborn photography, your baby’s age can be anywhere from 24 hrs to 3 weeks old! This age flexibility is one of my favorite things about a natural photography style. It allows you the choice of capturing your baby in his/her first hours at the hospital, first days at home, OR you have the choice to wait until you are more settled in as a family and feeling a little more like yourselves before getting in front of the camera 🙂 . Whichever you feels works best for your family!
How do I schedule a session when I don’t know when my baby will be born?
No worries! I know that babies are unpredictable and will make their arrival according to their own personal timeline (never mind the fact that you are SO ready for them to come!). I book all newborn sessions according to due date and I only accept a limited number of sessions each month to ensure ease of scheduling with each family. Just call, email, or text after your baby is born and we will discuss together what day and time would be best for your family.
What kind of images can I expect in my gallery?
Galleries will include images of just your baby along with images of your entire family. The photos of baby alone are usually done on a special blanket, a cute patterned rug in the nursery, or even just on a bed or couch. Images of your family will include photos of the whole family, of just Mom with baby, just Dad with baby, and just siblings and/or pets with baby (if cooperative!). I also love to include detail shots of baby lips, hands, feet, and belly buttons. Some of my favorite photos to include are detail photos that help to tell your family’s story. Photos of your home, your newborn clutter, and the nursery details you worked so hard on. My goal is to get images that will tell the story of this time in your lives. If you are still curious, head to the blog to see some examples of what a typical fresh 48 or in home newborn session will look like.
What should we wear?
I suggest comfortably fitted clothing in neutral colors for all my sessions. For Fresh 48 sessions, Mom, you can even stay in your hospital gown if you don’t feel up to getting dressed yet. Leggings, textured cardigans, and maxi dresses tend to work well for new Moms. Dads should dress comfortably in something they might typically wear – avoiding logos, loud colors, and loud patterns. Kids should be able to play and feel like themselves – again avoiding bright colors and logos. Feel free to visit my Pinterest page and browse the what to wear boards for inspiration.
What should I dress my new baby in?
Babies photograph best and most naturally in a neutral onesie or when they are naked and swaddled. Socks should be removed (to avoid lines). If there is a special outfit or blanket you would like to incorporate please let me know and we can work it in to your session.
How long does a typical newborn session last?
While I don’t put a time limit on my sessions (I like to be sure we are not stressed and have time for feedings and diaper changes), I will say that generally a newborn session will last between 1 and 3 hours.
I love that I get all the digital images from my session, but can I order prints, an album, or birth announcements through you?
Yes! All collections already include a 8×8 photo book displaying your favorite images from your session. After your session, you may also choose to upgrade your photo book to an heirloom album. And while you do have printing rights to the photos, some families prefer to order from me and my professional lab for photos that they plan on hanging on the wall ensuring accurate color and amazing quality.
