One snowy night a couple weeks ago, I had the honor of meeting baby Josiah just minutes after he was born.
While birth photography is not something I currently offer on a regular basis, it is something I hope to be able to offer in the future (possibly in the near future?). When April emailed me about photographing the birth of her 4th child, I was thrilled that the timing of her due date happened to work perfectly with my schedule and I was able to squeeze her in 🙂 I spent about a week and a half thinking that every text I got was going to be April telling me her labor was starting. Finally, on her due date, I got the text!
April had a beautiful birth plan. A water birth surrounded by family. Her fiance, Linnie, would catch the baby and her daughter was even going to cut the cord (how amazing for her!). As I was walking through the door of the hospital, so excited and humbled to be able to capture this baby’s beautiful entrance into the world, I got the call that Baby Josiah had his own plans and had just arrived very quickly and on his own terms 🙂 The tub may not have been used and the doctor may have had to catch the baby, but Mom and baby were both healthy and that’s all that matters! Remember that during your labor, all you moms-to-be! In the end, all that matters is a healthy baby and mom.
The love when I entered the St. John Medical Center hospital room was palpable. April was holding her fresh newborn while the nurses preserved the placenta and monitored her and the baby. Linnie was so happy to have a new son and couldn’t stop smiling. And all of Josiah’s siblings were gathering around the bed to get their first look at their newest little brother. There were many other family members there showing their support and loving on baby Josiah. It was such a beautiful scene. I did my best to blend in and capture the moments as they happened.
I loved the experience so much that I hope to be able to come up with a plan that will allow me to be on call so I can schedule some future birth stories. Make sure you follow me on Facebook to be the first to know all the details!
Thank you so much April, Linnie, and family for choosing me as your photographer. I feel so privileged that I was able to be there to witness Josiah’s first moments with his new family.
