Shannon and Chuck have come to feel more like friends to me than clients. I feel like after lots of emailing back and forth and shooting their maternity, fresh 48, and in home newborn sessions, I got to know them. They are a sweet couple who are very family oriented, love their dog, Louie, each other, and especially their baby girl, Lola.
I knew it was going to be a great session when I walked up to their home in Chardon, OH and was greeted by chickens on my way in! My family had chickens and ducks when I was a kid, so I felt right at home… Shannon and Chuck’s home has some great style (I’m giving most of the credit to Shannon). Their whole home is beautiful and has lots of cute personal touches from the pillows on their master bed (Shannon and I share a love of throw pillows, even though our husbands hate them, lol), to the great chalkboards that Shannon designs, to the bikes that are Chuck’s “thing”. Then you get to the beautiful and unique pink flamingo baby girl nursery. I knew from our emails that Shannon had put a lot of work into it. Well, she didn’t just put a lot of work into it, she put her heart and soul into it!!! She knew as soon as she found out that her baby would be a girl that she wanted to do pink flamingos for the nursery. Well, everything came together perfectly and she found the most perfect items to put in it. The watercolors of the “L” over the rocker and the flamingo over the dresser are her own original artwork and she even found a print of flamingos riding bikes for Chuck:) I may have gotten carried away photographing all the details of the nursery, but I love them all! Shannon, you are so talented!
I think my favorite photos, though, are the ones we got in the living room at the end of the session. Shannon really wanted to get a few photos of Lola in the cutest little romper and headband she had bought, but little Miss Lola was not having it. She did NOT want to be naked. Every time we would set her down, she would wake right back up. So, after some coaxing from Chuck, we gave up and did what they would normally do to get her to sleep. Put warm footie pajamas on her, wrapped her up tight in a sleep sack and rocked her to sleep. These are my favorites because they are real!!! Cuddling with your newborn baby on the couch after you finally get her to sleep, knowing you should be sleeping, but wanting to do nothing but stare at your beautiful child’s face. Those are the moments they are going to want to remember.
Thank you so much Shannon and Chuck for choosing me as your photographer, I am truly honored to have captured these memories for you guys! And if you want to find out more about Lola’s pink flamingo nursery, head on over to Shannon’s blog to check it out!
