There is so much more to being a photographer than just taking pictures. Editing, Emailing, Blogging, Finances, Taxes, Website creation, Education, and much, much more! Here’s a little “behind the scenes” look into the education part of being a photographer.
Photography, for me, has been a journey. A HUGE part of that journey is education. When I first started out, the classes I took concentrated on the technical aspects of photography. What is ISO? f-stop? shutter speed? And how do they work together to make a properly exposed image? How do I get accurate color and focus in an image? How do I use post-processing to make my images look finished and not overly done? Now, the classes I take are more focused on the business side of things or on creativity. I recently took two amazing classes through the Clickin Moms forum. Internet Marketing and SEO, and Online Presence with Beth Wade and Storymaking with Meredith Novario.
Being a lifestyle photographer, I do not have a physical store front. Internet Marketing, SEO, and Online Presence taught me how to make my website my “store front”. It taught me how Google chooses what websites to show you when you type “Cleveland newborn photographer” into that search bar. You will continue to notice improvements and changes on my website as I keep implementing some of the things I learned in that class 🙂 If you are a photographer in business, this class is a MUST!!!
Creativity is an ongoing process. Knowing what “the rules” are and how to break them to create the images that make my heart sing is an important part of my journey. I can’t say enough good things about Storymaking. If you are a photographer (of any kind!) and are looking for something to push you creatively, this class is perfect for you! Not only did I learn a lot about storytelling and how to create a narrative image, but I learned a lot about myself as well. I learned why I love the images I love. What elements I am drawn to in images and how I make my personal values and voice come out through my photos.
I am so excited to take everything I’ve learned and apply it to my business and to my personal work as well. Now, because no post is complete without photos, here is some personal and some client photos from Storymaking.
