“Tomorrow is the first blank page of a 365 page book… write a good one.”
2017 starts tomorrow!!!! Anyone else as excited as I am?
All in all, 2016 hasn’t been bad to me… pretty good, actually. But for some reason, I’m SO excited to welcome 2017.
I am one of those annoying people that loves the excitement of the new year. That loves the ability to “reset”. I’m the person who gets giddy about purging old items and re-organizing my house (seriously, the container aisles at Target give me goose bumps). I love taking this opportunity to set my goals for the year and to figure out what it is I want for my life. And I LOVE getting my new planner every year and writing those new year goals down on those fresh, blank pages. Essentially, writing my own book for the next 365 days.
I have many goals written down for this year already. I have goals for my photography business, goals for my family, and goals just for me. I have goals that are going to be relatively easy to meet and goals that are going to require a LOT of hard work to meet. And I also threw in some pretty lofty goals I know I probably won’t meet, but I’m excited to work towards. But the 3 goals I’ve deemed to be most important to me for 2017, I ended up putting right on the customizable cover of my planner…
Be Kind. Laugh Often. Choose Happy.
I know to some, these goals may seem generic and kind of cheesy… but, when I looked back at 2016 – these are three things I feel were missing from my life this past year. Now, please, don’t get me wrong – I’m generally a pretty kind and happy person and I love to laugh. But, this year I noticed that I let stress get to me more than I should have. I lost my patience with my kids more than I should have. I yelled at them more than I laughed with them. I chose pouting about what was wrong with my life instead of smiling about what is good. And I don’t want that for 2017.
So, this year I am going to be kinder to my family and friends, to strangers, AND to myself. I’m going to laugh more than pout. And in 2017, happiness is going to be something I CHOOSE to have, instead of something I expect to just happen for me.
Bring it on 2017, I’m ready for you!!!
I’d love to hear your new year’s goals… please share them with me in the comments!
