maternity photography faq | clevleand pregnancy photographer

With each inquiry I get for a photography session, comes some commonly asked questions. A few months back, I decided to write a series of blog posts that will be dedicated to answering some of the more frequent questions. My hope is that this will be a great resource for potential clients as well as for current clients who are trying to plan their session(s). Each session type will get its own post so I can be specific in my answers! Be sure and check out the first post in the series – Newborn Photography Faq. And look for posts on fresh 48 newborn and family sessions coming soon!

Today’s post – Maternity photography faq!

1. First of all, tell me – Why should I have a maternity session?

Pregnancy is a beautiful thing. The bond between a mama and her unborn child is real. Whether this is your first pregnancy or your last, this is the only time you will be pregnant with THIS child. Capture this moment. black and white maternity silhouette photo

2. But, I don’t FEEL beautiful!

This is probably the MOST common thought I get from moms-to-be. So please know you are not alone! And know that I totally get it. I was not in love with my body when I was pregnant. I felt fat, swollen, achy, and like I had 3 chins. BUT, even if you feel the same way I did – I assure you – to everyone else, you are GLOWING <3. And as an experienced pregnancy photographer, I know how to use light and angles to make you look your absolute best. I can also help you to pick the perfect outfit that makes you feel like a goddess! Trust me, no matter how badly you feel about your appearance, you will love that you have photos of this amazing time.maternity photography faq

3. Ok, I’m sold. When should I book my Ashley Sasak Photography maternity session?

I suggest booking as soon as you know you want a maternity session with me because session dates tend to book out a few months in advance. Usually, moms contact me after they get through that tough first trimester. CONTACT ME to book your session. Is your due date coming up fast? Feel free to still shoot me an email, I sometimes have months that are not fully booked.

4. When will my maternity photography session take place?

Maternity photos are best done between 30 and 36 weeks. This timeframe ensures that your beautiful belly will show in photos, but that you are not COMPLETELY uncomfortable yet.

5. Are family members included in the session as well? Or is that extra?

Of course family is included! I believe that each maternity session should tell a story of your growing family in addition to having photos of just you and your belly. All immediate family is included in the session including siblings and pets at no extra cost!

6. How long does the session last?

Your Ashley Sasak Photography maternity session will be around 1-2 hrs. This gives us enough time to capture belly photos and family photos both indoors and out.

7. Do you offer images in color or black and white?

Each gallery will have a mix of both color and black and white. Usually, there are more color images (because that’s what makes my heart sing), but if you prefer black and white, let me know and I can include more of them in your gallery.

8. Ok, I’m ready to book my sessionNow, what do I wear?

I suggest a neutral color palette for all my sessions as to not take away the focus from the love and interactions between you and your loved ones. You should avoid loud patterns, bright or fluorescent colors, and logos. Moms-to-be should wear something that they feel comfortable in. Long dresses or fitted tops usually work great!  You can also check out my What to wear: Maternity Pinterest board for some inspiration!

9. Will you use props in my session?

No props! I believe in capturing you and your family as naturally as possible. If there is something sentimental that you would like included in your session, please let me know ahead of time and we can talk about how to incorporate it into your session.

10. Do I receive digital images and how do I receive my photos?

Yes, all collections include all final digital images. Within 1-2 days of your session, I will post a sneak peek photo or two on my Facebook page. Then approximately 2 weeks from your session date, you will get receive an email with a link to your password protected online gallery. All of your images can be downloaded right to your computer from your gallery and you can save them in whatever way you prefer (usb, dvd, external hard drive, etc.). Prints and products can also be ordered directly from your gallery. I will also share a blog post on my website featuring the best images from your session to make it easy to share your session with family and friends!

11. I think I also want a newborn session and a fresh 48 session, do you offer packages?

Why yes, I do! And most of my clients book more than one session. You can see the different collection options HERE.

Thank you for this great information! I guess many people are wandering about #2.

Thank you for reading, Teresa! And yes, so many expecting women worry about #2!

This is so informative and great! I only have 1 cell phone picture of my first pregnancy and I’m so sad! I made sure not to make the same mistake again for my second one and I’m so happy that I have those photos to look back on!

Yes!!! I missed out on them with my first pregnancy, too! And I’m sooooo happy to have some amazing photos of my second pregnancy!
